Thanks Logana and Dale. The logo flash took a while as its two seperate objects with the actions timed to look like a continuous flash. It doesn't look very complex when its done. I'm looking forward to putting a sound effect to it.

if you want i can do some more music for your game since i have this week off school

I keep meaning to get round to sorting music. I've got a long way to go before I get to it at the rate im going lol.

That would be nice but no rush. Spend your valuble free time doing fun stuff like collecting frog spawn or whatever youngsters get upto nowadays.
Work on your game and music in school time haha.

I agree with your statement indeed that music and games should be done in school time indeed but while I do work on that I’m school I have grades to keep up and I won’t have time to make a shmup also it’s fun and free to create and imaginate oh yes indeed, therefor it’s not me doing you a favor it’s you giving me one, the chance to be creative should never be shun. Also I get to improve my skills and I love making music because well it’s just fun.

Also I don’t really like doing what kids do now a days because well it’s really not all to fun, and when I do, I feel trapped being forced to do remedial task over and over again, I don’t really see the appeal

I wish I had realised this when I was younger! You're totally right, sorry. If you are very creative it can be hard to enjoy things that don't seem productive. I understand what you mean.

yeah, also I'm thinking up some ideas for song idk, I think I'm gonna make songs for each of the areas you have shown :3

I do but I'm leaving music till last. It will be a long time before then.
What you've done already is more than enough. I honestly don't know what I'm doing with music or sounds yet.

Mock up for sprite HUD. Decided to move it to the bottom becasue I'm on the 8 sprite per scanline limit.

The frame to the bottom right will only appear at boss sceens.

Only problem is that I can't have any more health (hearts) for the boss unless I move it or think of a way to give boss more health (visually).
Interested what you all think. I know sometimes the boss health isn't shown at all, I could do that instead.

HUD sprites are looking awesome!

I'm not sure if it is practically feasible, but perhaps with some code tweaks you could use multiple graphics for a single sprite, for instance a full, half-full and empty heart. That would add four more hit points for the boss.

I was thinking along those lines. I might space the hearts apart a bit and try the half heart thing or maybe changing the palette when its on half.

And maybe have badguy hearts a line or so higher than your health. Might look off.
Or stack hearts top to bottom. That way the boss could even have 8 health.

I considered doing health vertically but I didn't want it to look too much like megaman. It makes more sense to do it that way but there's something I don't like about it.
It's a scrolling platformer so I can't have the players frame thing as the background but for the boss that could actually work. So many ways to do it! I could even not have the frame thing for the monster at all and just the health. I just thought it was a nice inditcation of "oh pants, I'm on the boss now"

Gotchya. What about hearts going around the square?Like surrounding it. Just another idea.
Or lastly, maybe 2 rows of 4 hearts each.
One under the other.
