You can NOT use old scripts made for a prior version (4.1.X) to the most recent versions (4.5.X). It would break your nesmaker project and maybe your engine.
I'm presuming because you did a module instead of listing the changes that there's a crazy amount of things to change? I'm looking into 2 player for my next 4.5 project.

I made so many modifications (deep in the engine, rebuilt it)... Like hundred of scripts modified and settings changed. I couldn't make a listing of all my modifications, it would takes ages to write/read and will be like pages on the forum. My module is a module... because it's REALLY different than the base module, the engine is heavily modified (the scripts that are not linked in the project settings).

Also, the 4.5 and the 4.1.5 are SOOOO different. It's not possible to apply my modifications on a 4.5.

That sounds super hard. I was thinking of starting with all the places player1_object is used and making sure the inputs setup actually supports the second gamepad.

That's a great place to start, yes.
Also... the 4.5.9 supports 2 players (it was not the case of the 4.1.5)... So it might not be too difficult to make a 2 player game with that version.
