Bumping this thread since someone linked it on Facebook asking for help with troubleshooting the script.
I'm just gonna point out that you all missed the easier method of setting a counter to the number of collectibles required at the start of the stage, then decrementing it each time they are collected until it reaches 0. That way you could use screen types as suggested to set the initial counter value and forget about it.
...Also we really need someone to rework the HUD variable system so the binary to decimal conversion only happens when displaying the variables instead of doing multi-byte calculations each time the value changes.
I sometimes think NESmaker was a huge mistake...
