This is my game so far... I'm about half way to finishing background gfx. Some levels look better than others at the moment. I created these screens just to test. I figured it would come in useful when I start adding monsters and getting different mechanics working. Thank you to everyone here on nesmakers, I know it's early days but I wouldn't have gotten this far without your help...

Yes, I did but there are still minor glitches similar to the scrolling platformer core but no where near as frequently.

I used the Joros scroll core... he posted it somewhere here with a download link but I can never seem to find anything with search. It's there somewhere!

It doesn't support hud at the moment so I'm going to have to get help or learn how to do some sort of graphical hud without splitting the screen.

Yes, thats the one! Work like a dream. Just no hud.

Thanks for finding the post.

If I remember well, Joro scrolling core has also issues with collectable/breakable/prizeBox tiles...

Oh. Didn't know that. I'll see how it goes. Maybe those will be ironed out or perhaps the new version of nesmaker will have an improved core for scrolling platformers. Does anybody know when that might be coming out btw?

I hope the new version has a solid scrolling engine, too.
I think it will be released this week, weekend maybe? At least, a beta...

Really amazing graphics, man!

Yeah, that version of my core probably has problems with tile pick ups. I'm working on that aspect right now on the new version. Also Joe just announced on the facebook group today that he's going to try to do a new version of 2-way scrolling for the new NESmaker release. It'll be interesting to see how we handle things differently. So you'll have some options on how to handle scrolling in the future.

I can't thank you enough for sharing your work. Appart from not being able to have a HUD, I've had no issues with any part of it so far... but I haven't really done much with my game yet apart from background graphics.

I started doing some text boxes today, just learning that part of NesMaker. No issues with that so far. Maybe by the time I get to adding pickups, you'll have a new core I can try? I hope you share it. I don't think I'd have been as enthusiastic about continuing my game in the scrolling format without your help.

Is there a reason why Joe didn't ask to collaborate with the work you've done on the scrolling core; or were you just both working on it at similar times and the code ended up too different? Seems like you're both working hard to achieve the same thing.

Also, thank you for the kind words about my graphics. It's about the only thing I'm good at with making games but im trying to get better at other stuff too and produce quality games.

Not that I know of. Not sure to what extent Joe is aware of my core. Maybe because I've taken so long with it he's just figure that what I have been doing is stuck in limbo. Maybe it was in limbo for a while. Maybe it's because he's tailoring it for 4.5 and I'm designing around 4.1. After I saw his post I thought about reaching out and seeing if he might want to compare notes. I still might do that, but I am constantly feeling like I am overlooking something and that everything is in disarray that I fear his judgement. It would kind of suck if it turned out what he's doing will make what I have been working on obsolete, but I doubt that we are doing everything the same; and I have learned so much from doing this. But I do think that it is likely that some of things that I have done will still have value whatever happens

It can't hurt to reach out. Sooner rather than later maybe if it's something they're currently working on. Joe seems to welcome outside help if it makes the project better.

I've started a do-over of my title screen. I wasn't happy with my original one. I'm thinking this one is going to turn out a lot better and, because of the pixel look to it, a very small amount of tile space needed.

New start screen! Binned my first attempt after spending a long time making it. That's just how it goes i guess. I'm much happier with the new one. Features main characters 'rad rabbit' and 'bad hare'.

This title screen is gorgeous! <3

Thank you Dale. It's a lot better than my first attempt!

I'm now working on getting more detail in background graphics now 4.5 allows for different tile setups (no hud). I'd ditched a lot of stuff when I ran out of tiles which I can use now.
