When I test the project, the key strokes appear in controller 2, not controller 1, thus the player doesn't move.

Any suggestions?

you need to check your controller configuration for the emulator you are testing with.

it sounds like you have different buttons set up for player 1

Thanks. I did have the wrong buttons assigned. Everything works fine.
