Yo! Here's a button mashing game , or atleast the start of one. It's about a robot
who is looking for the ultimate workout basically. She has a tapedeck in her tummy.
I did the graphics when i started using nesmaker. Nevermade a game with them until now though.
tech DEMO WIP ROM - https://www.mediafire.com/file/mme3u2hbf5l7k5z/aerobot_WIP_tech_DEMO.zip/file
Please feel free to try the demo out.
Aerobot Progress 1.gif

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is more of a pose/flex off untill i redo and do more graphics.
But the game will be workout/aerobic based.
This is all early testing stuff. I used a tile hud, some tiles to look like the tile hud,
a tile controller, and 2 objects for the controller buttons/dpad. The enemy fitness persons
state controls what the controller tells you to do. Its set up in such a way that its usable in whatever
way i need for each person/level and combination of buttons.

000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Each level will have different time limits, the characters will have 3 stats
that effect them.PWR,SPD,AGI (see the end of this post).
There will be different modes. There are 2 right now.
One hot minute(60 seconds to see how many button presses you can do!)
, and the "story" mode.
THIS IS A TESTING ROM. Its not the game, its all stuff im testing. No need for it
to look nice or "play like a game" until the coding is done truly.
But it is the skeleton of the game im imagining, anything can change, and alot will
(like the place holder graphics and music).
I made each level 10 seconds for testing.(except one hot minute).Enjoy.

The onscreen controller will show you what button/buttons you should be
MASHING!

If it says like "UP and A" , HOLD UP and PRESS A. For 1 HITS.
BUT, press both correctly at the same time and get 2 HITS.
Your choice.Why choose.......?

PRESSING the correct buttons gets you HITS, a wrong button/combo (a MISS) HURTS Aerobot.
(Every 3 MISSES in a row to be exact. This gives the player a
buffer to switch to the new combination that they need to
MASH without too
much of a penalty)

Meaning.... If you choose the hold method, PRESSING 1 button can only give you 1 MISS.
BUT using the PRESSING ALL method can result in as much as 4 HITS or 4 MISSES (DIAGONAL D-pad+ A+B)
in later levels!

Doing NOTHING for like a second will result in HURTING Aerobot also.

Ofcourse, you could always press the buttons slowly, but then you wouldnt
get enough HITS!

There will be different modes.
Hopefully 2 player, timed, most presses, story mode, whatever really.

VS Screen Info

Aerobot VS screen 1.gif
PWR is for how many buttons the other girl will make you try to press.
SPD is for how fast the other girl can get HITS.
AGI is for how quickly the other girl can switch stances(buttons/combos).

Much thanks to ......

I updated the rom. I added a life/stamina system. While youre mashing the buttons,
and the CPU switches, its easy to press the wrong buttons. Now you have a 2 press buffer.
Meaning, if you press the wrong button twice, but then the correct button, youre fine.
BUT if you press the wrong buttons 3 times in a row, you lose a heart. To get a heart back,
just hit the correct buttons next. Lastly, if you press nothing for a second or so, you will
lose a heart!
Hopefully you'll understand. its so you can keep mashing
and have a buffer to be able to change buttons on the fly with little to no repercussions.
But no resting, this is for exercise, duh!
Please try it out(what i have so far) and let me know how it seems.

Next is to make the correct buttons more apparent to the player. Maybe around the character or
something...

Heh, this looks like a game that would require NES Power pad.

Yeah, that would be awesome! Probly too tough for some things, but I could make a mode for it . There may be complications I'm unaware of using it, but it's worth a shot!

Aerobot vs screen setup 1.gif

I threw together a VS screen. Stilll needs work. Not sure about the nameplates.

The pwr n stuff is a textbox, nameplates and flashys and VS are tiles, the characters
are objects, the top is a tilehud.
The rom is updated.

THIS IS LOOKING SWO GREAT!

perhaps a small sound effect when you get a move right or wrong?

Thanks! I have thought about that. I think there is a slight noise when you get it wrong, maybe not.
It would be too annoying for when you get it right I think. I do want to make it more apparent either way.

Added that sound effect when getting bad presses! Also fixed the main gimmick of the game
with much help from tauikininja and SciNEStist. So now the scores act right, atleast up to 200 presses.
The 100s place seems even stranger than the 10s place in nesmaker so.....its limited for now. Mostly you wont
be getting 200 presses ever in the main game, but may be possible on the easiest level if given enough time.
For non competition modes, it works just fine. The problem is when doing operations with the 100s place.
It should be handled almost exactly the same as the 10s but, here we are for now, so.....

Please try it out and let me know how it goes.It gets rough i know, still balancing stuff while fixing it
and creating it . But just, ya know, let me know if its working right. I made each level 30 seconds to easily
test.

Thanks to dale_coop and mugi and bucket mouse for helping me with the start screen warp code.
Especially dale_coop, as he wrote it. Soooooooo i added a "see how many HITS you can get in 60 seconds"
mode. Press select at the start screen, then press start to go to it. Heres my record, but i did pause half way through.
Had to text while a thought was fresh in my mind, so this is a cheater score. NO PAUSING! Demo Roms been updated.

Aerobot Record so far.png
Yeah thats right..... i was born in the 80s.

edit: my game timer was fast 1 second for every 10. So 6 seconds fast.
So i did those hits in 54 seconds truly. I will re calibrate now. (fixed now, its closer to accurate)

So heres my current record with an oem NES dogbone controller.
Please try to beat it. I still feel my lil muscles while typing this.
I even had to switch to my left thumb once or twice. I'm surprised i didnt cramp up.
It was a random attempt at 1:30 in the morning. But not tooooooo shabby.
I average 9 and a half presses on a normal mash if needed in any game, but i was really trying here.
So 11 presses per second here though. Mostly right thumb and pointer.TMI?

This is in the 60 second mode.Press select at the start menu to select that mode and try for yourself!
Please post here what you can get if ya want.

I'm impressed with how fast you are putting this together. I've been poking at the same game, working on and off for over a year now.
Thanks. I think sticking with 4.1 helped me. I know alot of the limitations and bugs and quirks within it now.
This game is a single screen game also,so much smaller and less intricate than my Almika game. That game took 7 months for me to learn some asm nesmaker and make it, then some time here and there fixing debugging and re working after.
This game is more tight knit. Things don't conflict as much as they can with an action/adventure in nesmaker.
I bet I could kick out small gimmicked games in a months time if I needed to now with 4.1. Of course the question would be" would those games be any good?". Possibly. 3 months would be long enough.
I also have free time whenever I want because I am my own boss.
Don't be discouraged at all if you are, your game is its own thing and may have a ton of things to figure out how to even do, functionally, within nesmaker.

My main advice to anyone here would be
" Workaround it when you can. Games are mostly illusion anyway."
Make it look like it does" it" , If it doesn't have to truly do "it".

Added tv static in between screens. Still looks off. I need to make it more seamless.
