Almika The Star Rider Densetsu Gaiden

This is a story of a girl from the center of the Sun. Also she's hungry, and loves to nap!
The Earth is in trouble. Saturn is Eclipsing the Sun and an evil ceremony is about to commence.

Starring : Almika!
Also starring : Alimka's stomach!

heavily updated ROM on 4/16/2023 (merica)
16/4/2023 (not merica)
This is a video series of me playing Almika! I taped it in a cold VW camper.

50% of this game was made with the power of the Sun! I used my solar panels
in my cabin to run my laptop and recharge it for much of the making of this game.
This goes along with the name Almika, meaning "
She of the Sun".

TIPS: Let everyone talk.Dont walk out of a door when someone is talking. Text triggers stuff, so if you dont listen,
you may not be able to advance until you listen.

EPILEPSY WARNING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But PAUSE the game, then press SELECT to toggle FLASHING mid game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The game saves like every 5 to 10 screens. Mostly around 10ish. It saves in specific spots, i just mean those spots are every so many screens.
Like at a town, or right before a boss, or right after an npc opens the way.

Find all the 4 armor, find the 5 warpgates, then find the 5 keys, then go to the temple. Beat the bad guy boss guy Thats the whole game.

The projectile helps alot. You'll find that in level 4.

There is a Second Sword in the game after you find the armor.

And there is a Dash upgrade that is not needed, but helps, so it's only if you find it.

Difficulty Warning

This game expects you to die alot, especially your first time playing, so you are given many checkpoints and infinite lives. Personally I don't like to walk through the motions, and frankly, I love an abusive challenge. That's what this is. So get ready to die! ( Or cheat and use savestates)

Music Warning

You may notice that the music is high energy and as many notes as possible. This is true. It's best heard on a real NES or the emulator called FCEUX or the latest MESSEN.
I really don't like radio music and didn't want it to sound like any other game that Ive played. It half sounds like others but it's my own for sure. The highs are high and the lows are as low as they could go while still hearing them. I like to make it all one big experience of me, and I'd say I hit the nail on the head. But you've been warned!

I built this game with NESmaker, which has alot of bugs and quirks so...........
I ran into so many barriers along the way, but in the end i think i have a solid game that shouldnt soft or hardlock.
But that being said, we all gotta deal with it however it is. I can update, but it is what it is. I give it my approval. But no refunds.

I start and am stuck at this screen. Is this an emulator problem, wrong rom or is there just something I simply
understand about progression of this part?

Now firstly, grats on finishing up your work. It's pretty cool how you figured to make X style dress up change for the main character.

I wasn't big fan of the soundtrack and in my personal opinion game could use an outside composer to better the experience.

As for that flashy stage... I'd seriously either slow down the pace colors keep swapping or use less radiant colors to make it easier on the eyes.
That area was really hard on my eyes and I am glad I'm not prone to epilepsy because that if anything could have launched it.

Now there were few really cool areas that I really liked though.
However, I'd suggest against using brown background on walkable brown tiles or any same color on background as the foreground.
Also that green and brown grass area could use a bit better texturing so it doesn't look too bland and out of place with the rest of the elements.

Some of the stage hazards could also use a bit more consistency since randomness of their functions and how they literally went for a kill as
I approached them was pretty annoying and made the game pretty savestate spammy.

Those things aside. It was alright experience. Bit too difficult considering the enemy patterns but you made the best use possible for the NES maker's capabilities
even though the game could still use for some polishing before trying to sell it as a cartridge.

Awesome thanks. It is tough but gets easier the more you play. I'm really good at it by now but yes, the RNG can be annoying. Thanks alot for all the feedback.
I have to say that I really love the whole soundtrack personally. It is an acquired taste, it doesn't remind me of normal nes music, whether konami or tecmo or whatever. Also I've always been experimental or different musically, to the point where I was in a noise band. So I'd say we're all lucky it sounds like music atleast. But we'll noted, thank you.
As for the epilepsy level, everyone was warned at the begining of this post for sure.
It's suppose to weigh on you. 99 percent of people to ever play this will probly be on an emulator and use states anyway, so I figured I'd keep it challenging. as for a cart.... Most people don't end up beating tough nes games of the past either. It can take alot of dedication. You sound like you did great for how far you got. Well done

I forgot to mention, it sounds great in fceux. Not some other emulators. Also think of it like super meat boy. You are expected to die alot. As to why you have infinite lives and plenty of checkpoints, hopefully!
I could ease up the difficulty a tad...

Also to anyone, I'm sorry if it sounds like I am dismissing any valid points. I am more of an artist. So unless the game is broken, I probly won't change much. As I wouldn't change a picture I painted. That being said, batsy and others all have good valid points for anyone reading this. I am stubborn with my art though. The difficulty although is not art! So I can ease up in some spots. Thanks again to any feedback, i should probly mention all this kinda stuff at the first post. I will re edit to let people know how the game is played and why I made some choices that I did.
As to a passerby, it may seem like a crapshoot rolled up into a potential headache .
