Life can change in a single blink...

Thy Prying Eye is a co-op point-and-click horror adventure game. Keep in mind that most gameplay elements aren't implemented yet, as this is just an interactive teaser for Byte-Off 2020. As development progresses many elements in this demo will be changed, so stay tuned!

This artwork is amazing, what did you use to draw this?

Pretty much everything I draw that isn't strictly tile-based (like platformer tiles and the like) is drawn in Paint first, then redrawn / converted into NES Screen Tool for tileset management and arranging. For this project specifically it's important for me to draw what I want the final image to look like in Paint first so I can plan what's going to be background tiles and what will be sprite graphics. What would be the best course of action, etc. I'm not very good at drawing complex stuff from scratch in NES Screen Tool alone, but I still use it for tileset / pattern table management.

If you look in Mesen's PPU viewer you can see how the pattern table for each screen is completely packed! Which is why when I further development on this the first thing I'm looking into is custom CHR loading routines and CHR compression, similar to what Dimension Shift currently does to store more CHR data.

I'm inspired by your approach to making graphics, especially for backgrounds like this. I get obsessed with the individual tiles and reducing them / creating redundancies too quickly which might be the wrong way to go about things sometimes! This certainly looks amazing, and the colour choices are 'on point'.

I love point and click adventure games. I hope my prying eye finds disk 22 in one of the drawers.
