After two months of very little free time (had to wait until the wife and kids went to bed). I’ve officially completed my first game here for the NESMaker community. Hope you enjoy the commercial I filmed with my son!
Carpet Shark. Based on the 2013 Fista Productions short film.
"A shark's soul is trapped inside an 8x10 area rug. It's General Major Cadaver Scab's duty to keep the shark tame. Can he? CAN ANYONE?"
Play as the Carpet Shark. Eat as many victims as you can before the timer and your health run out. After each level, fight one of the 4 bosses (our characters from the movie). Try to eat the bosses weapons to fire back at them. Can you beat all 4 levels?
Runners = 100 points + 1 health point
Skulls = 200 points
Dark Skulls = 300 points
Bosses = 1000 points
Depending on how high or low your points are, you will get a different win screen at the end of the game (0 - 9,999 points, 10,000 - 19,999 points, or 20,000+ points).
On the Title Screen, if you wait it’ll go into a cut scene. You can also press the select button to get to/scroll through the cut scene so you don’t have to wait.
There are four secret rooms. On the High Score screen:
Hold Left & Select for secret #1.
Hold Right & Select for secret #2.
Hold Up & Select for secret #3.
Hold Down & Select for secret #4.
My best friend created the title theme and main theme for the movie. I transcribed them to the NES the best way I could. Then I made more original music with help from my friend, Logana. He also helped make my original songs sound so much better!
If you’re interested in our ridiculous movie we made 8 years ago, you can watch it here (oddly this was filmed right before Sharknado and all the crazy shark flicks that followed).
Here’s the old WIP page if you’d like to see how the game developed.
^Cartridge label artwork. I get printed from Stone Age Gamer.
^BitBox Artwork that you can get for Stone Age Gamer cases (if you search their database).
^A 1 page 1 side manual for inside the box (4.25x5.5)
Special thanks goes out to @dale_coop @Logana @CutterCross and @Jonny for helping me when I was stuck in different aspects of this game. You’ll see their names in the credits screen of the game.
Let me tell you how hard it was to make such a simple game.. Every time I fixed something, it seemed like I broke 5 other things... I thought I was going to blaze through putting it together like I would when I made games with klik n play/click n create/multimedia fusion... NOPE.. for something so little, it was by far the toughest thing I’ve had to make.. I have finally accomplished my childhood dream of making a game for the actual Nintendo NES .. Now ..I’m going to go outside for a bit.
