First of all, thanks to everyone who reached out to me over the MOTU game idea. I really appreciate all of the PMs but I'm a man of my word and I will not post any more in that thread out of respect to Joe's wishes. I have reached out to Mattel for permission. If anything comes of that, I will open that thread back up. If not, let it die :)

Moving on, I have been working on a Pirate game in the same style I was using. You play as a man named Flynn who has been marooned by his shipmates. You find a chest containing your sword and the following note:

"Ye were warned, Flynn... Take yer sword and keep yer distance.
If we sees ye again, we will do worse than maroon ye!"

X - Bones

You then move to the next screen and find a lifeboat that takes you to the Royal Island of Port Henry. Once there you begin to navigate the island, explore the towns, avoid the Navy and eventually board the ships in the docks to different places as you work out where your betrayers have gone so you can seek revenge.

I reworked and simplified the first island on the game. Still need to add some underworld mapping for the towns, Governor's mansion and the fort, as well as add a key to the ships' captain's quarters and a boss.

Lowres video capture of how the game currently looks. I noticed a tree that was left unfinished above the docks, its been fixed.

MrElephant - Thanks!

The Governor's mansion. One of the bookshelves in his bedroom is breakable, revealing a hidden treasure room with the key to get to the Captain's cabin on the ship.

View attachment FlynnsRevengeDemo.rarFinally came back and finished the level. I think I am going to wait until NESMaker advances further and then start from scratch remaking it. Otherwise, here is the playable demo. Feel free to give any criticism. Some things I might already be aware of, some things I might not, but I'm open to any feedback :)

Once we get the new update, I am going to try to do everything on a slightly bigger scale, sprite wise. I kept things simple as I was learning but now that I kind of have a handle on things, I am going to work on getting in more detail.

The game will still begin the same way: marooned on an island, finding a note, getting your sword, and going to Port Henry. Port Henry will still operate the same way but I am going to add a third town. Each of the towns are going to have a place where you can gain more information. The game already hints that way (people talking about their church or school). You still have to fight through the Governor's mansion to get the key to the Captain's Quarters on the ship and visiting the Fort will give you the info on your old comrades. Their names are Bones, Flynt, Long Thom, Stumpy Jake, Patches, and Jacque Le Hook. These will be your main bosses in your quest for revenge. I want each boss to be oversized and have a gimmick as well. Patches will throw eye balls at you, Stumpy Jake will try to stomp you under his Peg Leg, Long Thom will try to kill you with his cannon, Jacque will use his Hook to swipe at you, Flynt will have a parrot that attacks you, and Bones will more than likely be an undead skeleton who has skeleton warriors that protect him.

You will start off at the Deserted Island before heading to Port Henry where you will gain the Governor's ship. Then you will visit the Pirate ports of Tortuga, Clew Bay, Barataria Bay, St. Mary's Island, Nassau, and Skull Island for your showdowns with your old friends. You will also have to visit Port Royal and avoid being executed for being a Pirate at some point. The game will end with your revenge complete and new adventure on the horizon.

Obviously, it's a Zelda clone. You will have to visit everywhere and use the clues you gain to know what to do. The only thing I don't know what to do with is the treasure/coins. I'm hoping that the ability to add a store will be something more clearly defined in the update's module as I am not a coder.

I love the idea of a pirate game. fighting off other pirates or law enforcement, stealing from shipping companies, etc.

I suggest using the Nesmaker path system to try and smooth out those blocks.

I might and thank you for the feedback/suggestion. :) Aesthetically, I'm liking this right now but as I go on I might change my mind. Who knows. For now, it's just all going to be about doing groundwork. No spit and polish yet.
