Hi I am Rezelin, and I am new to 8 Bit action game making.

Very exited to be a part of this community and to finally make the action game I always wanted to play! I've spent some time on RPG maker and related software so the concept of coding, story, pixel art, script, bit music ect are all things I've tinkered with in other ways. This engine is the first one I've had that can do action games and (fingers crossed) metroidvania style games. I feel my strengths are in visual design and story telling. I'm a little intimidated by the task of learning code, even script.
I plan to add value by making pallets and pixel art that can be shared among the community. While I'm here I'll be shamelessly looking for action game script and mechanics that I can implement into my own creations.
My first two questions, for those reading, are; What program do you recommend for making my pixel tiles? Do you have or know where I can get some working action game script/code?

thank you all so much!!
Rezelin B.

Hi! Welcome!

I'm sure someone else could provide a better greeting than me, but I can offer an answer to at least one your questions.

First, probably the best pixel art tool money can buy right now (for $20) is Aseprite. It's like the classic Deluxe Paint but with a much more modern interface. If you don't want to spend anything, you can also try Grafx2, which is literally like Deluxe Paint but open source and runs on modern systems.

Second, you can find some scripts and code for action games if you search around the forums. There's a lot of stuff that's out of date and made for earlier versions of NESMaker, and have thus been archived so they're not accessible front and center, but they might still work, with or without some modifications. You can always ask for help as well.

Welcome :)
Glad to have you here with us.
Follow the tutorials on the official website to learn everything about NESmaker (the "intermediate" ones).
On the forum, you will find all the resources we are sharing altogether (scripts, music, gfx, ..)
Feel free to share your projects.
Have fun!

Welcome yo. I use photoshop or for a free program, yy-chr is simple and nice .
But the built in NESmaker editor isnt bad, just quirky.

Welcome!

I'm using piskel. Theres a online version and download version to install. Works great, although Aseprite had more functionality so I'm thinking of buying that.
