"Santa can't find his way to Maile Penguin's house, and the only way to help him is by harnessing the power of 8 Heart Blinks found throughout her neighborhood! Search everywhere, find those Heart Blinks, and save Christmas!"
Happy Holidays! I just finished my first NESmaker game, "Maile Penguin's Christmas Adventure". You can download the ROM from https://karikas.itch.io/maile-christmas or play it live in-browser via The Retroverse at https://theretroverse.com/welcome/icon_view?g=TVRneg==
Every year I send out a digital holiday card to friends and family, usually it's a video (used to be Flash animations "back in the day") but about six months ago I started playing with NESmaker and thought yeah... we could do this... so with some input from my 5 year old daughter we made this quick little adventure game! She was my playtester, I assumed all the other roles, and my good pal Three Ninjas took on the original Famitracker music (check him out at https://threeninjas.net/).
This was great mental exercise learning some assembly and the ins, outs, and quirks of NESmaker and NES game development! Something super fun I never thought I would ever do! And it kept me focused on something fun during this crazy year.
It's a quick game - no monsters, just collecting "Heart Blinks" (my daughter's signature drawing), should take 3 minutes once you know where they all are. Thanks to everybody in the NESmaker community for your forum posts and assistance, I don't think I could have done it without such a strong community! And thanks for checking this out!
