Graphics looks pretty decent and overall gameplay is pretty okay.
But man enemies can really screw you over due to short invisibility time.

Few things I noticed during testing was that jumping is apparently unfinished or just bugged out since due to pose
I suppose player character to be spinning like Contra guy when he jumps. There are also a loooot of slow downs.

Other than that, while not quite contra, it's pretty good in it's own right especially for NESmaker game.

I contemplated spinning around like Contra but, aside from the fact I'm basically out of game object CHR space, I found the game doesn't need it. I'm trying multiple tricks to deal with slow down (bespoke draw code, skipping collision checks), but the sprites in the game are just chunky and the NESMaker scrolling engine is not optimized. Thanks for the feedback!
