NES "Mario Kart" mode-7 engine

I've just discovered this gem. Z80artist is making a mode-7 like engine for the NES and Gameboy Color!
He has a prototype running and is showing it on his youtube channel.

In-progress engine for NES and GameBoy Color. Racetrack map sizes are larger than the SNES Mario Kart! Many features are to come, and you can see object/projectile movement (no scaling yet). Recorded directly from the real system. Let me know what kind of features & racing game you would like to see on the NES/GBC!
ENGINE DETAILS:
- Uses NES cartridge mapper MMC3 512K ROM (same cart type as Mario 3!)
- Supports 256 unique graphic tiles (tracks will have more curves and detail soon)
- Features 256 degrees/angles of movement.
