Project Cipher - Development Thread

Never done a development thread before, thought I'd give a try (we'll see if I get bored of it).

This game in progress is called Project Cipher until it has a proper name. It will be a fairly open platformer/adventure game taking inspirations from many other games such as TMNT, Fester's Quest, Strider, Berzerk and other games I feel like could have been awesome with a few small tweaks.

Right now the game is very early on and there isn't really much to show. My first objective was completing a functional character select pause screen that was pleasing to the eye, and here it is. As you can see it allows switching between the 3 characters, keeps track of the player's location/facing direction, and each character's health as well as displaying each character's individual health bar on the pause screen with fancy blinking if health gets low.

How you're doing that menu screen? just warping to a screen that you are using for the menu, then warp back to the original screen ?

Yep, exactly. It functions but it is causing some issues right now. The player's health is just red boxes, but as you can see it gets corrupted and draws that weird white line in them (there's no tile that matches that graphic).

Something YOU need to be working on mate. Didn't I tell you I'd critizise the heck out of the NES makes since I paid for it? XDDDD;;;

Oooooh I'm excited to see more! Do you have walk cycle animations done? I'd love to see them or any enemies! :D

Oh sure, all of the character animations are done. I'm currently working on getting all of the attacks functioning properly.
But one thing to show I guess is how the three characters have different abilities and behave differently. Blue guy shoots stuff but is slow, Red guy is slow but attacks faster and breaks away tiles, and Green guy is weak but really fast, jumps farther and will grab onto ledges, which only partially works atm.

OH SNAP! Love it! That is really cool! Those are really good animations! Great work on the colors too, all character stand out really well against the background even the Clyde!
