Swap tilesets using Screenbytes?

On FB, Joe mentioned something about using screen bytes to swap out a tileset for a monster.... that way the monster looks different, but is still the same object.

I'd like to do this with my player, and my tiles are already set up well to be swapped. But I'm not sure how to go about getting it done. I'm a bit lost when it comes to screen bytes and how to implement them.

How might I code a screen byte to change the tileset of an object? Ideally this would be triggered manually, but on screen load could work too.
