The Excitables (WIP)

It's time to officially create this WIP page. The last month i've been getting things together for this along with getting a physical release going for Carpet Shark.

The Excitables is my friends (Fista Productions) and my rip off/homage of The Expendables. Just like Carpet Shark.. this is another short film we made. Actually 2. First one in 2011 and sequel in 2012. Feel free to watch them here to get an idea of what they're about:

There will be 5 stages plus a final boss. Each stage you play as a different character from our movies and each level will be very different from each other. Extremely ambitious for my skill level in NESMaker, but i'm determined to make it.

This time around I have the masterful @Logana doing all of the music and my incredibly talented friend, Lilith, doing the cutscene and character sprites. I'm doing background sprites, logo, and minor things I didn't ask her to do.. Plus i'll be doing all of the lovely (sarcasm) programming. A neat little collaboration of things.

This title screen is a WIP. No where near finished. But just to give you a little taste of what's to come:

The sprite work on that title screen looks awesome! And you can't really go wrong with Logana on your music/sfx team. I'm excited (I'm not even gonna pretend that pun was unintended) to see how this project will progress, and if the end result is going to be as much fun as Carpet Shark.

@Logana Thanks, buddy! We just gotta keep the motivation going, right? Most of the soundtracks from the movies are ripped straight from Rambo, Predator, Terminator, Running Man, and Platoon. So like badass army orchestra type music. Plus Guns N Roses for that one scene!

@kevin81 I know, right?? Lilith did an AMAZING job on our character sprites for the title screen. I was blown away. She has some real talent! ..And as you know Logana is the freakin' man! He's been pumping out the soundtrack like a champ. Sounding so good! Thank you my friend.. crossing my fingers for good results in the end! Just gotta try and not get myself lost in all of this code. You know you'll see me in the the "Ask For Help" section soon here :ROFLMAO:

I really really like how you've set out your title screen. Also the illustration is wicked. Looking forward to this because I'm a fan of the movies...maybe the first more than the others! A great idea for a game.

@Jonny Thank you! Experimented with those leaves/vines I made to create a border. Trying to have it fit the feel! I also love the first Expendables.. 2nd one is good too because it has JCVD.. 3rd one i was indifferent about but loved the cameos. Huge fan of Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Van Damme...and all of their 80s/90s tough guy movies.

Really appreciate the feedback.. gave me an extra boost of motivation.

Stalone: "I heard another rumor that you were bitten by a king cobra."
Chuck Norris: "Yeah. But after five days of agonizing pain, the cobra died.”

I need to watch them all again now!

Update time!

Still truckin' along. Like Joe says in one of his tutorials.. all of the coding right now is like loose spaghetti. Little errors here and there.. finding ways around them.. every level changes to the different character I want and they all move to what I have assigned to them.. so that is gooood. Already used up the last bank so did some bank switching. Things are surprisingly good at the moment though. Had a few hiccups.. especially with an error in my sprite sheet but that is all fixed now.. as the days go by, i'm jumping back and forth between levels doing what I can.. slowly chipping away at each thing. Once I get further in, i'll have a check list of what to do.. it's so sporadic right now, that there's no point for one at the moment..

But anywho.. here's a little cutscene image before the first mission:

That sounds cool, will each character have a unique ability or is each character used like a life so when all are dead its game over?

Each level will have its own character and I’m trying to make each level different than each other so there’s a lot of variety. One level guns, the next level grenades, another level no weapons and just trying to escape, etc. Pain in my arse but thankfully everything is working out so far!

I'm at the point where all the easy stuff is done.. now all that is left is the hard stuff and things i have problems understanding.. Once I attack each one of these.. we'll be in the clear.. I hope.. After this project, i'm definitely taking a much longer break before the next game. Between my brain being fried and the free time limited.. I need to refresh my batteries internally.
