Additional Tilesets

Hi everybody,

While I was at Midwest Gaming Classic, I was talking to Joe G. about adding additional tilesets. He said that, although it's not built into NESMaker, it is possible to do. He showed me an example of how they did it in Mystic Searches.

If I recall correctly, he said that I would want to make a new folder called something like "Safe_Tiles" and copy my tileset BMPs that are currently in use into the new folder. Then I could edit the original tileset BMPs that are NOT the copies in the "Safe_Tiles" folder, and draw the new artwork that I wanted and save it over the original BMPs. I could then use the screen editor to place my new tiles into a new screen. Then I could cake a new folder called something like "Additional_Tiles" and copy the newly edited BMPs into this folder. Then I could rename these BMPs into a new naming format like "Additional_Tiles01.bmp, Additional_Tiles02.bmp, etc."

At this point my memory got a little fuzzy on the details. I am pretty sure that I convert these new BMPs to new CHRs with similar filenames.

Then I would copy the original BMPs from the "Safe_Tiles" folder back into the original folder, so they will be back where they started.

From that point, I don't remember much.

Does anyone know how this could be done? Are there any tutorials on this?

My Dummy Duck game has already used up almost all of the background tiles, and I need additional tilesets to build the world that I've envisioned for the game.

Please help.

Thanks!

I made a tutorial about having multiple tilesets a while back. Maybe you can use that as a starting point.
