THE RULES

The rules are fairly loose. Maybe I should address them, but...really, they're the rules of the software itself.
  • Original IP only (no zelda/mario or some adaptation of an existing movie you don't own the rights to, etc)
  • On the honor system, something you create during the competition...however, using resources (especially coding resources) from anywhere, any time, is fine.
  • Created with NESmaker, though using other tools is fine...the final product should be the result of hitting the export and test button in the software...but considering how much one can create from scratch if they WANTED to, that is still very open
  • Get it in by the deadline through the retroverse (instructions haven't been announced yet).
So the rules are generally implicit, which is why they're not really spelled out. it's more about what IS ok - like...you can submit more than one entry (though i recommend polishing the first instead, there's nothing wrong with submitting more!). You can be part of several teams...like if you're an artist and just spend the whole month cranking on art assets for 20 projects, etc. Important info will be on the Byte-Off page on The New 8-bit heroes website.
  • All entries must be submitted by no later than Sunday, March 17th, at 11:59pm EST.
  • Player's Choice voting will begin on The Retroverse on Monday, March 18th, and voting will be open until just prior to the Byte-Off Awards.
  • The annual Byte-Off Awards will take place live this year's Midwest Gaming Classic the weekend of April 5th.

Good luck to everyone who enters! I have come up with an idea for a game that should be possible to implement with some hard work. Are there a lot of people teaming up this year? I'm considering the idea of getting help with the art/music so I can focus on the actual coding and gameplay.
