I recently got a deal on a used PS2. On that I've been playing Tenchu 3, Baulders Gate Dark Alliance and Grandia Extreme.
I also got a CRT TV finally and have been checking out zapper games. To the Earth has been getting a lot of play. Pinball and Mario 3 have been in my regular plays too.
Hey congrats on the CRT TV!
They're becoming hard to find anymore unless you get one online and want to pay the shipping cost equivalent of a brick house.
Zapper games are always fun!
I modified my zapper to eliminate that annoying clickity clackity noise (It also eliminated potential arguments from others being annoyed in the household
).
My favorite go to zapper game is Mechanized Attack. The hit detection feels a bit off but still chaotic and fun to play.
My other go to is Gotcha! I remember renting this decades ago and never liking it simple because I failed to understand that you have to use the controller at the same time.
Also, congrats on the PS2!
The most badass game for that console is Starsky & Hutch in my opinion.
This game is mediocre when played with just the controller but it's a completely different beast when played with the steering wheel, pedals and light gun.
It's the only game I'm aware of that executed this for that console.
The pedals for the steering wheel can also be used for taking cover in other light gun games like Time Crisis, Gunfighter and many others including PS1 games
that of course can be played on the PS2. Below is a picture of my half-assed set up for Starky & Hutch that I dedicated an extra console for.
It's always a blast to play with a few beers especially once the game is complete then you can select your favorite missions to go kick some ass!
If you ever get the opportunity to play Starsky this way always remember to calibrate the gun correctly and change the camera to inside (bumper view) for more precision driving.
Failing to change that camera view also effects the accuracy in the gun as well simple because the objects are farther away and harder to shoot.
I'm afraid to admit how much time I have invested playing this game
.
I might as well mention this. If you purchased a PS2 "Slim" be aware these thin consoles are prone to scratching disk to the point of destroying them in one sitting.
I learned that the hard way. There are video's out there that explain some simple ways to correct the issue if needed.
Anyway, enough of my babbling. Have a good time enjoying your new stuff!
