Good evening everyone. I am Sir Rack of Lamb (my gaming handle for the last 10+ years)

I am new to everything NESmaker and coding. I have a Twitch channel where I play a lot of retro games in my free time. I have a tad over 4000 games in my collection. I grew up with the NES and was always interested in making a game.

After watching almost every The New 8-Bit Heroes YouTube videos and other NESmaker tutorials, I decided to jump in head first and see if I have what it takes. I am excited to learn the process and maybe, just maybe, come out with something playable.

I hope to learn a lot from everyone here.

I hope all is well with everyone!

Thank you to The New 8-bit Heroes and the community for building this program.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum.
What kind of game do you have in mind ?
I have two games in mind. 1: combo top down shooter (like Heavy Barrel) over world and platformer underworld (like metroid/contra). 2: simple adventure (Zelda, FF). I have zero background/education in computers/coding/programing. So, to tackle these goals, Im just starting with the basics and learning to navigate the program and playing with the mechanics.

If you ever need any help try notifying me or someone else in the ask for help section šŸ˜€ also you have a twitch? Would be cool to be sent a link! And if you want helping on stream could be fun!

SirRackOfLamb is also my twitch. I have not been active the last few week d/t life and work (I work as a Phlebotomy Quality Lead. My work has been prepping for internal and external audits and it a very long and stressful process. Once done, we'll be good for another 5-7 years). BUT Yes! Once I have a good understanding of navigation and function- It would be fun to stream the build process from the point of the "student" haha. I will be watching all the learning videos on repeat for the next few weeks and play with the presets. I'll be lurking in the forums and reading as much as I can. There are a lot of really neat things people have been sharing. Really cool!

Welcome @SirRackOfLamb
Glad to have you here with us.
I'd strongly suggest to follow all the tutorial videos from the official page:
- the 12 days of NESmas series
- the module specific tutorial videos (you can skip all the "beginner" videos, you won't learn anything useful from them).
Would be fun to see the stream of yourself progressing in your project.

My advice is to not start your big project right now... start small. Make smaller projects first, projects you can improve progressively. And one day you will be able to work on your magnum opus.

If you have any issue or questions, browse the help, scripts, community tutorial sections or use the search fonctions.
We also have a discord server https://discord.gg/X6PaYKV

have fun!

For sure. I dont plan on starting anything big for several months or better. I am working my way through the MOD training videos and following along, mirroring what is being done. once I finish the first MOD game videos, I was going to attack the 12 days series. there is another guy on YouTube called "board-b Tutorials"-- he has 19 videos that center on the use of 4.5.9 Nesmaker. His videos average about 45-55min each and he does a good job as well.

As far as my ideas for games go, they are a long way off. When I say I have no experience in anything like this, we are talking Pre-K level of knowledge hahaha.

But! This is something that I had been thinking about learning for several years now. When I found NESmaker, I thought that it would be a great start.
