If Someone Comes Knocking.....

Dont answer.
I just quit a project that i was doing for the last 8 months.
The person who asked me to "help" ended up not..... helping much.
Ever heard this one.......
" Looking for someone to code."
The only reason i accepted was to be totally selfless,as dale_coop and a ton of you
have done the same in small or large doses for me and everyone else here.
This is a tight community.

The person that asked me to help wanted to do the title, music, graphics, and direct everything.
A "win-win" for anyone else involved right...........?
Little did i know that they were just gonna "rip off",or parody, other IP's characters and music.
Not inherently bad if done right and for fun.
So they ended up putting in even less work for their awesome NES game with
their logo and convention title in the name.
I could be ok with that for a free or fan project, but those ip's werent even done justice
in the end.

I put endless hours into the project, trying to make it a great game with others,
but found that others were doing most of the work.
Not to mention the countless excuses we were always given, up untill i said "I'm out."

It was suppose to be a giveaway game with a VIP permit to a convention.
But turned into" We're gonna sell it!"
To sell a game that was never meant to be,especially when other people helped for free,
was just wrong to me.

Apparently nothing was in place to complete or release the game or a demo or physical carts.
Nothing was done professionally . But many things were said and promised.

The person didnt even bother to learn the basics of nesmaker, even simple u.i. stuff.
They never did what they said they would do, or it would always be very late, if done at all.
Usually someone like myself, mainly, would have to pick up all the slack.
8 months later, ive made a game with someone elses graphics, and they are never satisfied.

They argued with me up until the last minute, also trying to talk smack about my graphic abilities.
Putting me down , after all the work i did. When i was just honest and straight forward with them
the entire time. Ungrateful, expectant, unsatisfiable, and childish.
So i quit.

The game is called Torgman. I suggest you stay far away.

Im not spiteful.I was payed nothing. I learned alot.
I understand that this was all my choice, and i understood that this very thing could likely
happen. I'm not complaining, i'm just here to warn you if he comes knockin.

@mouse spirit really really sorry to hear about this. I hope you can use the work for other projects. It's true, this is a tight community and people don't mind helping if the other person is a least willing to try and learn. Seems like in this instance they wanted you to make exactly what they envisaged for free, then sell your work. It's disgraceful, you did well to abandon ship.

Curious about the expo itself - I can't seem to view the facebook page without having a login. Is it an event that's been going on for a while? or is this the first one? Nobody would blame you for taking up the oppertunity, you weren't to know it would turn sour! It's quite concerning if this is the behaviour from the event organiser themselves. Doesn't sound very supportive of indie devs. The only red-flag for me would be that they're pushing 'non-profit' as a USP for the event which to me just sounds like they're trying to be dodgy in some way and pay themselves massive wages and pay no tax.

Thanks for the support everyone. There is some great code I can still use. It's not a total loss.

And It's TORGs. An Ohio retro gaming con. It's been going on for a few years.

The guy was very passive aggressive and childish. Like he didn't think I'd just stop. Very full of himself.

I tried to kinda look past any of his character flaws and continue the project, but he continued to get worse and more snide.
