If you saw my introduction post, you would know I was stuck on ideas. Well, I came up with two (somewhat related) game ideas that I would want to make based around cryptids.
If you don't know what a cryptid is, it's pretty much all the never-been-seen/folklore/mythological creatures. There are 10 classifications of cryptids, but I'm mainly looking towards these three:

Wikipedia said:
7. Animals not known from the fossil record nor related to any known species (e.g. North America's Bigfoot or most sea serpents);
8. Mythical animals with a zoological basis (e.g. the griffin, partly inspired by dinosaur fossils of Central Asia);
9. Seemingly paranormal or supernatural entities with some animal-like characteristics (e.g. Mothman, black dogs, or some fairies from folklore);
There's also a subcategory called "fearsome critters" that usually fall into the 10th category of hoaxes. They are based around old American/Canadian lumberjack stories of different creatures the live in the woods.

As for my actual ideas, they are either:
  • Cryptid Tales: Many, different, once thought-to-be-fake cryptids are starting to show up around the world. It's up to [hero] to travel around the map and destroy the beings that shouldn't be.
    • This one would probably be an adventure game with a world map based similar to Earth with the different bosses located in areas they are usually associated with.
or
  • Fearsome Critters: You are a lumberjack, lost in the woods. Try to make your way back to camp while trying to stay alive with all the creatures lurking around the forest.
    • This one would probably play in a more linear style with, possibly, some "survival" elements.

I'll probably make both, but I don't know which to focus on first. Neither one is more developed than the other, so I can't really decide.
I already know what the final bosses would be for each game, but I don't want to spoil it, so I won't tell you now.

Please vote in the poll for which one you guys would like more.
Also, let me know what your favorite cryptid is (traditional, mythical, fearsome critter, or otherwise). I honestly, really like Jackalopes.
Some input would be nice too...

I like elements of both! I like the lumberjack character, but I like the idea of searching for these mysterious creatures.

Honestly, my thinking is that making a game is going to be a ton of work, so whatever one you are most driven by would be my vote for what to do first :)

I would probably empathize more with the lumberjack just trying to survive compared to an special agent charged with exterminating various new and weird species around the globe (X-Com style). I might like the extermination premise though if there was a sinister enough back story for the cause of the rising cryptid population.

Also bigfoot, yeti, and nessie are the obvious suspects, but I would definitely love some jackalope and chupacabra.
