Hi everyone, just a very small update for my game. Mostly I've been working on monster graphics while 4.5 gets ironed out.

Inspired by Joe's new tutorials, I thought I'd try to figure out what exactly I wanted my game to do and drew a game flow of sorts... (Crude I know).

I'm really interested in what you other nesmakers are doing regards game design off NesMaker. Are you planning things out first to the most precise detail or just making things up as you go? Or a bit of both?

That looks like a flowchart or something. Very nice. Personally i am a willy nillier by nature and choice if given one.
I love unwritten things that only happen once.Buuuuut i want my current game to be a better but reminiscent game in some ways,
so i am cookie cutting some stuff too, meaning that stuffs been done.(Meaning better than Athena on NES and remeninscent
of maybe a Faxanadu esque level/map setup) My project wont be the games that it may be"like"...
all that being said, i'd rather go with the flow. But i work well scattered and multitasking for some reason.
Structure has its pros fersure. Take this text block for example, i think we are both lucky that i even punctualize and capitalize
as i don't care much about either. But who wants to read something that is so sloppy open ended and you cant get the feeling of
it let alone a form to understand? Like that previous sentence! I do type things down when i think of them,
which may be my compromise to the chaos.

So in the end, balance is what may be key(ki) here, as with most things.
A little of both, or maybe neither. I hope i haven't answered your question at all, by possibly answering it.

I'm starting to realise the willy nilly aproach is more productive for me than trying to plan out every detail. I've seen a few game design documents on here and just wondered if that was a common thing for homebrewers. I think probably not but its interesting to hear how different people are with their approach to designing/making their game.

Thank you. I haven't done an update for a while. I've done loads more work on graphics / cutscenes.

I'm going to post an update video next week sometime.

im still willing to make music for this game if your intrested

Appreciate that a lot.

I've almost finished the graphics and music/sfx was my next thing to look into. It's taken a while because I've rehashed a lot of the backgrounds for all 7 levels and done screen specific tiles for bosses plus the monsters themselves, and cutscene stuff. I really keep meaning to put something together to share as a lot has been impoved.

JollyShadow also kindly offered to do some music. Ideally I'd like to have a different composer for each level, credited at the level intro... for example,
"Level 2 - The Dark Woods"
"Music By: M Jackson"

That's if enough people want to do it and don't mind other musicians being on the game... and if i ever get my sht together and finish it. Feels like I'm a long way off at the moment but things are coming together. My aspirations might have been a little high for my first game :?

Nice one thanks. I don't even know how instruments etc work at the moment. Whether I would have to use the same instruments to reduce memory needed.

I don't really have any particular style of music in mind, I was just going to pick what I thought worked best for each level. Maybe something between abient and funky lol. I'm not a musician as you can tell by the terms I'm using lol.

Yeah I think I sorta understand what you mean, sorta like hill too Zone from sonic mixed with the game corner theme from Pokémon gold, I’ll get working on that :3 I’ll try and use only 4-5 instruments but I have a specific style of drumbs I use a lot

A very small update on my game. Not really much to show as I've not had chance lately to spend time on it. Mostly I've been working on cutscenes, story text and starting work on sprite HUD. This isn't the full intro sequence by a long shot but there's quite a few things I'm yet to figure out.

If anyone is interested in how anything is done here, everything is based on the CutterCross tutorial for cutscenes available on his YouTube. I'll try to help if anyone has any questions, although I don't know a great deal myself which is why this isn't finished lol.

It will be better with sound effects but here you go....
