Byte-Off III Early Submissions

This is not the official submission thread for Byte-Off III games. This is a thread for early, unofficial submissions for users who want us to showcase their proof of concepts at RetroWorld Expo.

If you would like us to publicly showcase your game thus far, labeled as a WIP for Byte-Off III, please attach your ROM in this thread. If you don't feel your game is ready to be shown, there is no obligation to do this. It is simply a way to generate excitement for what you are creating for this year's event. We will show all games submitted to this thread throughout the weekend.

It's pretty easy to get your game file if you have never done it before. In your NESmaker folder, in the gameEngineData folder, you'll see a file called game.nes. That is the ROM for your game. You can copy that and paste it to your desktop, rename it to the name of your game, and then zip it up to add to attach it here. If you also want to include any additional media for your game, all the better!

Can't wait to see what you've been creating!

Here's my complete game Zombiehunter Bob. I'll try to get some original music done before the official ByteOff submission. And if I get the time I'll also try to iron out the last few bugs.

Was pretty badly sick the first few weeks of the byte-off and still really recovering. Really considered skipping this year but then was like, meh, what the hell, it's a fun idea so here it is in all its WIP glory. Nothing to write home about but I liked the idea.

Oratorio is a rhythm action rail-shooter for the NES.

It's primarily inspired by games like Rez, Child of Eden, and Thumper.

This demo features a full stage, which consists of 10 sections, dozens of waves of melodic enemy blasting, and a boss (or two?)!

As an on-rails rhythmic shooter, players create the music of the game by shooting enemies, projectiles, and powerups. Everything players do contributes to the soundscape in this innovative retro music shooting game! The game can sound as full or as empty as players want.

Players control a cursor and assume a first-person perspective on an ever-expanding digital track in cyberspace.

Note: It goes without saying that this isn't the finished demo for the competition, but it's fairly advanced and should showcase well. Cheers!

EDIT: I've removed the file now that the con is over. The final Byte-Off demo of Oratorio will be available soon.

The Adventures of Panzer: DMuscles

The dreaded zombie virus has been unleased in Zergadins medical clinic! Join D.Muscles, from the Adventures of Panzer, as he either attempts to save as many patients as possible ... or just PURGES the infected. Armed with his trusty flame thrower and his in depth knowledge of medicine; D.muscles Dodges Ghosts, rides moving platforms and torches zombies (or patients) in an attempt to stop the undead scrounge from destroying mankind!

Do whatever it takes to stop the zombie apocalypse! Just don't forget to refuel ....

This is amazing! I just did a quick play session of your games. They are great. It's always so much fun to play new NES games and see what you guys come up with. Great work everyone! I love the ByteOff competition!

Moving platforms? That's super cool. I've been planning on doing that for a while now, and you got it working perfectly. Nice work!

Thanks @baardbi ! I was able to get the vertical ones working using one of the posts in the forums. I think a scrolling game would need to have the button pushed scroll reworked to function though.

Oh wow. These are all super cool. Rainbo kept freezing on the first screen for me, unfortunately. And Get It Together is already super advanced. The loop and structure are there!
I'm using Mesen 0.9.9 - the first screen (the text "THE HERO OF LEGEND CAME TO OUR WORLD") has a timed fade - takes about 5 seconds
