'Export and Test' only brings up a placeholder game?

Hi y'all, I hope this is the right place to ask this.. I'm following the tutorial video and things have been going well so far, but when I click "export and test asm" it starts up a game that I didn't make, with a title screen, character sprites, and a whole different map. I assume this is a placeholder game included with NESmaker.. maybe I accidentally opened it when I started the project? But the assets for that game don't show up in the editor, so I don't think I did. I want to know how to startup and test the game I'm making.

Further details:
* When the guy in the video clicks "export and test", a command line window opens, then the map that he was working on opens.
* When I click "export and test", there's no command line box, the game just opens to a title screen with music playing, and when I press start, it goes to a map with a hero and some monsters jumping around.

Thanks in advance!

Which version... 4.5?
Make sure you unzipped the nesmaker45.zip, before starting NESMaker_4_5_2.exe that is inside the NESmaker folder.
You could also disabled your antivirus..
Then, when you export and test your project, yes, you should have a command line dialog appearing (black window)... before being launching the emulator.

I believe i am having this same problem. no matter what i do i can not export and test my own game. just what appears to be the "finished" product of the orientation game that i am trying to create on my own.

Make sure you followed the tutorial... if not the same result, you might have set something differently (maybe an error appears in the command line). Or most surely, your "Project Settings > Emulator" settings (paths) could be incorrect (in the case you work on multiple NESmaker folders or renamed it)

Yeah i think what dale_coop is saying is that its "intended" to do that if.... you most likely dont have your game.nes folder set up in project settings in the nesmaker u.i.
Also in the same spot, set up your emulator.

Should be in the first or second tutorial, sometimes joe can fly through some things or just say "do this" instead explaing(sometimes).

Like when you start nesmaker,do abunch of stuff, and save. It actually wont save anything if not set up right or if being used while still IN a zipfile.

Also if this is wrong in your case, then i'm not sure.

When i initially bought this and loaded it up, i started with the orientation video on the main 8bit heroes webpage learning site. thought this was the way to go. if there is a different tutorial video, please direct me towards the correct one. I do have everything set up for my working path, my emulator, and my game.nes file. i tried using fceux and mesen as my emulators and nothing changes...when i export and test, comes up with the "tutorial game" (the little dude who shoots balls at crabs). i don't get any command line coming up when exporting and testing.

Some of this may be outdated but it's still a good place to start.

it actually looks like i solved the problem on my own. after dissecting the compile process a little, i found out that CMD was some how busted and crashing when opening. after i reset windows and reloaded NESmaker, boom! my test games are compiling and loading up for me to test and debug! thank you all for the suggestions
