Greetings,

I am Ronin. I am in my 40s and was an avid Nintendo fan for a long time. When I was a kid, I wanted to make a NES game. Due to circumstances, I have a lot of time on my hands. As of now, I purchased a copy of NESMaker and have been working on drawing NES-style pixel art. I have years of hobby experience drawing VGA-style graphics with the 256 color Ultima VII (PC) palette. It is a fun challenge to create really good and original NES art within the rules. I also write stories, music, lyrics, and poems. I have many ideas, of course. I am practicing the art and am slowly yet surely watching many videos and readying myself for the tutorials. I haven't been able to discern if NESMaker can make a game like Legend of Kage and/or Demon Sword, as one of my ideas needs to be able to scroll left/right/up/down. I will start simple, however. Action, adventure, point & click; I am never short of ideas. I hope to one day make an RPG wither with NESMaker or on PC (or SNES, if tools come out for that.) I am working on RPG mechanics for a tabletop RPG.

I have been reading posts and checking out what others have done, with and without NESMaker. I am inspired by what others have accomplished. I am better suited as a writer, artist, designer, musician, and director. However, with how difficult it can be to find programmers, I hope to learn 6502 assembly.

Many thanks for your time.

Welcome @Ronin

Glad to have you here with us.
I'd strongly suggest to follow all the tutorial videos from the official page:
- the 12 days of NESmas series
- the module specific tutorial videos (you can skip all the "beginner" videos, you won't learn anything useful from them).
Would be fun to see the stream of yourself progressing in your project.

My advice is to not start your big project right now... start small. Make smaller projects first, projects you can improve progressively. And one day you will be able to work on your magnum opus.

If you have any issue or questions, browse the help, scripts, community tutorial sections or use the search fonctions.
We also have a discord server https://discord.gg/X6PaYKV

have fun!

Thank you. I truly appreciate your advice. I do plan on working through each and every tutorial, and watching other videos and reading what I can on 6502 assembly (after working through the official tutorials.) In the meantime, I am working on NES graphics of all sorts of styles and sizes and studying existing graphics from many games. I will definitely ask many questions, over time. I am also playing modern NES games in addition to many of the classics to become reacquainted with the system.
