I posted on reddit and it was dumb

So i signed up and posted on reddit in the nes reddit. I just metioned my game Almika , kubo 3 , Flea! , and Witches Weed.Tryin
to just get the word out on some finished NES games. I got immediately trolled and called a douche and basically a noob.
Im not hurt or offended, but i wanted to ask, is that how the nes reddit is? Just stoopid. Or is there something else going on.
Like jealously or a blackball on NESmaker games. I wasnt out of sorts or derogatory . Not sure what i did incorrectly if anything.

I did read that more than 10 percent of your post shouldnt be advertising. That may have been it, but i was advertising new games in general.
It was approved by moderators but people kept reporting it as if it was bad. The first comment was "could your post be more spammy douche"
probly the most A-typical troll line i have ever seen. Certainly helps me realize why i dont have a facebook or twitter or reddit (until today).
But that would be the point of people like this also.So is it just trolls or is it like a "thing" against people who make NES games?
Or did i cross some line?

Ha . They told me to get a marketing team. It was pretty funny. It felt very disingenuous. Like fakey.
Unwelcoming and narrow minded. Well, absent minded truly. Funnily enough ive had similar responses to
just giving away my games for free. Some people actually dont like that sort of thing.

Are you referring to r/nes? I don't think that one's for homebrew stuff.
You might have better luck in r/Homebrews, although that one isn't exclusively for NES homebrews.
There's always the NESdev forums - I haven't used it before but I think n8bit (Doodle World guy) got a warm reception there.
Maybe just ease off the advertising and talk about yourself first, then tack on your games like they're an afterthought.
Y'know, like how you probably did when you first joined here.

Gotchya. Yeah r/nes. Ive mostly only seen stupid or fake posts there. Most are just clickbait. But yeah, they must hate homebrewers.
I will try in homebrews thank you.

Sorry about that experience. Maybe people jump the gun on getting upset when they see what might seem like advertising or self-promotion? Who knows. You seem like a reasonable person who was just trying to spread the good word. I hope it doesn't discourage you in doing so. Also, why would anyone get mad about you giving away your game for free?! That is so bizarre. Haha.

I appreciate that. Yeah, that free game experience was on nintendoage. I dont forum much, but i will say
that this forum is the only one without a frickin troll in site. I think the trolls are always waiting, so they
are there first.Sadly representing a whole community to someone like myself.I know better but its still crappy.
Its most likely just a psychological response. Subconscious even. Some people just "need " to be sour when others
seem to be happy or doing well. Truly thats part of why i love just giving stuff away.I just thought id start to try to sell mywork.
I will even though i hate money. I think people would like to help support an NES creator like myself.

It doesn't matter if it was on the wrong or right Reddit; People still don't need to be dicks.
I've posted stuff on Reddit myself, on NesDev just asking what the general feeling was about NesMaker. Generally the response was good but you'll always get someone who gets all upset for whatever reason.
I wouldn't bother worrying about the correct social media etiquette. It would be nice to see you on twitter. Don't let a few people put you off posting things you're interested in. It's a small percentage but there's always going to be a few self-righteous arrogant a-holes desperate for attention. Sadly we've seen that recently on this forum too.

Sad thing is people gravitate to negativity on the internet because it’s easy and they think they’re funny. Parts of the web are just a cesspool of hate. Pay no mind to them. Keep doing what you’re doing! 🙌

I am really sorry to hear that, mouse spirit.
Yeah, I personally thing reddit (and some FB groups) are not full of really nice people.
Joe had the same experience when he was trying to share his work (NESmaker). People was trolling him, almost hating him...
"Troll Burner" was born from that experience.

I'd imagine there's some people in the homebrew scene who aren't happy about this software and the lowered barrier of entry it allows for people who know very little ASM. Also, I tend to avoid Reddit like the plague. It's not much better than 4chan (which I actually used to hang out on, but believe me, that was during a very dark period of my life).

I read though the entire thing on NesDev. It's how I found out about NesMaker.

It was probably some decent exposure for NesMaker. Joe stayed cool as a cucumber.

I am proud to say I've never visited reddit. Heard enough about the toxicity over there that keeps me far away and while I am sure there are plenty of decent folk, not worth wading through the filth to find em.
