I'm an idiot

Just wanted to get that out of the way.

I have no experience doing anything like this. I'm here because every year I do a themed treasure hunt for my kids and I'm working on one based of a video game. The plan is to do a classic adventure game like Zelda with four bosses. Each boss drops a key and coordinates where they will find the real life key hidden across the Pacific Northwest. Once they defeat all four bosses and collect all the keys, they will be able to open a real-life box and claim their prize. So far, I've just been working on sprites and assets. But once I get rolling on the actual game you can expect a lot of stupid questions. I appreciate your patience in advance.

Welcome @Mulligan
That's an cool project !
I'd suggest to start following the official tutorials, to learn how to use, set up and make yoru first simple NES games:

The "12 days of NESmas" series and all the module specific tutorial videos (but SKIP the the "beginners" ones, those are too basic and you will miss the important informations)

Have fun!
