Settings for a Spooky Game

Hey all,

I was brainstorming some level locations for a spooky themed game and I thought I would bring it up here. What kind of settings would you want or expect in a spooky/horror themed game?

Hi, I would expect an abandoned mansion, a graveyard, an old and abandoned fair (with clowns) and a forest.

Edit: my sister said: a house like in Psycho with stuffed animals and "mothers" attacking or a forest that leads to an asylum.

Some fun, classic settings! Ugh, a carnival would be creepy (fantastic) but could lend itself well to a good horror game. Same with an asylum. My mindset has been more "Universal" horror, like the Universal monster movies. So towns, graveyards, forests, castles, sewers and swamps, and other similar things. Your sister has a very scary imagination and I love it!

While it may be a tad extreme for what I want, I love the idea! Maybe as a final area, or a creepy place under the sewers...maybe I could put some of my human anatomy education to work. Love it!

Hospitals can be creepy locations I think as can large abandoned places like factories/schools. With the right music and colour scheme any location can work.

Very true. One can make almost any setting spooky while proper application of colors, music, and such. As I work on my own game that includes more "traditional" settings for horror, I wonder what kind of unique settings one could create. I'll have to think on this for a while but Splatterhouse comes to mind for some reason.
