Who Else is Making Progress?

I have no coding or software experience. But I did write a narrative to base my game off of (took me a few months to come up with an original story and then write and edit it); I started learning 8 bit art for this project; I learned how to produce chip tunes on Famitracker; and now I'm level designing and branching out to other people in the community for advice: All because I love the NES!!! :)

So, I have had less than a week to start working with NESMAker and I finally got something that moves around, has music, and has graphics. If you find this thread and check out my short intro vid, please send me a message or comment to give me some pointers or opinions - I accept all constructive criticism or props.

Thanks!

I really like it so far. Especially the music. It has a very mysterious...almost ominous feel to it. I'm trucking along fairly well too, though it basic module doesn't fit my needs at the moment so i'm mostly creating graphics until the adventure module comes out and I can poke around with it.

Just one more day or so! If there isn't a delay.

Incredible work. On only few days, you managed to make already some good screens. I love the animations of your character (and the music, of course ;))

Thanks guys! Thank you for the positiveness :)

I'm afraid I'm mostly stuck, until we get more robust modules available. I don't code assembly, and don't really plan to learn it. I've got my platform game working, with my character running and jumping, and some basic enemies. But I'm waiting for a better jump script, attacks, wall-jumping, and more interesting enemy behaviors. At this point I think I am mostly limited to designing the game on paper.

I activated NESmaker and tried to get started at 1am and was tired... not a good idea. Am making some progress with graphics now which should be the simplest part. I'm sure I will only get so far and need to find someone willing to finish it up... but I knew that before anything was released. Still this software is a gift from the gods, the gaming gods.

I started two weeks ago and I have a full game already (40-60 minutes to finish). I have to polish the visuals, find some music, and work through a number of bugs (Dale Coop has been really helpful so far on that account).

NESMaker needs a lot of work, but it's intuitive to use and will only improve over time. And it's already resulted in a huge burst of high quality homebrew content.

Keep up the work. We all look forward to the finished game.

I'm getting a fair bit of work done as well, I have level one fleshed out, as well as a lot of the gameplay mechanics in place. I'm also making pretty good progress reassembling the game in 4.1.x I hope to get level 2 built pretty soon. Anyway that's enough jabbering on, good luck to the rest of you guys. :)

Yep, making a quite a bit of progress, considering I haven't start a game yet ;)

I've been spending the past weeks just learning the tool. Learing how the NES handles graphics. Breaking down the scripts, trying to piece together the "how" and "why" of it all, hoping to learn and understand enough to make it happen. And of course there's been a lot question asking here on the forum. Sometimes I worry that Dale_Coop starts each day by logging in, seeing my name, and thinking "crap... this guy again"?

But... happy to say I feel confident enough to start now. I have a solid foundation for how it all works, so it's time to do something with it. Over the course of the weekend, I'll be starting the first steps of actually making that game that's been rattling around in my head for a while.

Heee?! How you know?
... I am kidding ;) don't worry... I am happy to help and reply to all the questions, issues... if I know the answer or if I have to do some tests and try finding the answer.

After more than a year I work with NESmaker, I am still making progress and learning new things on ASM almost each time. I really love NESmaker!

I'm not making progress at the moment. I'm having problems with 4.1.5., but going back to an old version is not a real solution for me, because my game keeps freezing randomly when I jump on an enemy.
Now I'm waiting for 5.0 and I'm thinking about a backstory, enemies, levels, cover art and so on.
I hope I can find some time in August to add an enemy I've nearly finished. I also want to redesign some assets of my first level and think about a general art style.
I also want to use Aseprite instead of Paint, so I'll have to learn how to handle that program.
I also want to learn some assembly coding and start making my own little functions to tweak modules/cores.

The 4.1.5 has issues, but I personally love that version, a great version (the 4.1.5 tool is a pleasure to use).
Dirk, if you need help to fix some bugs on your game, I'd be happy to help you.

Thank you Dale!
I want to learn some assembly and code special behavior for my enemies, so I'm quite sure I'll need your help soon ;-)

I'm starting with the Nerdy Nights tutorials.

You already knew them beforehand? So you already had some assembly experience when NESMaker came out?

I always wanted to make NES games... and two years ago, I got sick, long period laying in my bed. So I had time for searching about anything on internet...
I found the Nerdy Nights tutorials, I tried... I abandoned at the 2nd or 3rd lessons. I understood NOTHING >_<

Then I discovered The New 8 bit Heroes, I watched it (loved it), then I backed NESmaker, ... etc ;)
